10 days in Peru - Jungle hiking trail, Santa Teresa
The Jungle hiking trail - 27 km walk on the inca trail or inca camino. We started at 7am in the morning. The first part of the trail was flat but after that we had to climb the mountains. The wheather was hot, but our guide suggested is better to wear a long sleve shirt and throusers because of the mosquitos. He was right because those who came in a short or t-shirt they got a lot of mosquito bites.
We visited the monkeyhouse in the middle of the jungle. Unfortunately we didn’t see any monkey but we saw a beautiful big parrot, we got delicious cakes, fresh juice and we could try a snake tequila from the jungle. After the break we went on the inca trail.
We also had our lunch in the middle of the jungle in a small restaurant. The menu was very simple but phenomenal. After lunch we had proximately the half of the way in front of us and therefore some people gave it up and went to our next accomodation by taxi. But the tough ones walked the whole route through the jungle, across several rivers, hills and mountains up and down.
Close to Santa Teresa, our daily destination, we got another surprise in the end. We had to sit in a basket to be able to across the river to reach the city. Another unique thing for „dinner”.
Before the dinner we got into the hot spring of Santa Teresa. There are 3 pools and the water has different temperature in each of them. It was very good to sit in the warm bath after the 27 km mountain hike.
