3 days in Iceland - Fagradalsfjall Volcano, Brimketill lava rock, Gunnuhver hot springs (3rd day)
The 3rd day was our last day in Iceland. Our plane left in the late afternoon so we had time to see a few more sights in this area on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
At first, we visited the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. It was a bit tiring hike up to the volcano and back. It should have been a 5-hour trip, but we made it in 2-3 hours.
After the volcano trip we drove to see the Brimketill lava rock poolhe weather was cold and windy and huge waves crashed on the coastal rocks … so we had an unexpected shower.
My friends and I took a short break at the Reykjanes Lighthouse. It was built in 1878 and a few years later it was damaged in an earthquake.
An other amazing sight was the Valahnúkamöl cliffs. This stop is only 2 minutes far from the lighthouse: amazing and enormous black rocks, the wild sea and the huge waves were incredible and impressive.
We finished our tour for this day at the Gunnuhver hot springs and mud pools. This area has a very special sight in the winter. If you look around you see snow everywhere but this area looks like you are on an other planet, like on the Mars. I went closer to the main spring, and I saw the remains of the old path in one of the mud pools, which had been swallowed up by the spring during an unexpected eruption. It was amazing.
