10 days in Peru – The Rainbow Mountain alias Vinicunca

Next day in the early morning – could you guess? lol – we left our hotel to see the culmination of our journey – the Rainbow Mountain alias Vinicunca or Winikunka. We went by bus shuttle from Cusco with its 3500 meters to the mountain up to 4700 meters.

From the paring lot we had to walk to the peak. Our tourguide told us that although the walkway is only 2,5 km long, it takes 2 hours! And when we'll arrive at the peak, we had to look around, take photos and it's recommended to stay on the top of the mountain about 15 minutes and we should go back to the bus after that.

It was so difficult to reach the top on 5030 meters. Several people turned back on the way because they had headache, dizziness, nausea and can’t breathe normally. Because there was no oxygen, we had to stop in every 5-10 meters because we hardly can’t breathe too. It was very hard, but the view was unforgettable, beautiful and breathtaking. The experience was worth the suffering.

Despite the advice of our tourguide, instead of 15 minutes, we spent about 1 hour at the top of the Rainbow Mountain. It caused sickness to several people in our group.
